Qantas, an Australian airline, has announced that it is looking into a privacy breach on its app that exposed users' personal information.

Several users claimed to have seen multiple boarding cards and flight information, including names and frequent flyer numbers, belonging to strangers.

About three hours after it was found, Qantas claimed it had resolved the issue and apologized to the customers.

It further stated that there was "no indication of a cyber security incident".

It stated in a statement on Wednesday that "current investigations indicate that it was caused by a technology issue and may have been related to recent system changes."

It had already asked people who were impacted to "please be aware of social media scams at this time".

Josh Withers, a customer, told ABC that on Wednesday when he accessed the app, the name and details of another passenger showed.

"It said: 'Hi Sam' and I instantly noticed [that] Sam had a lot more Qantas points than I did," said the man.

According to Mr. Withers, every time he returned to the site, a fresh customer's information would show up, including their planned flights and frequent flyer miles.

Some travelers claimed to be able to cancel a fellow traveler's scheduled flight to Europe, according to reports from the local media.

Technology journalist Trevor Long claimed he could "capture at least 8-12 different people's details - including valid boarding passes" in 15 minutes while speaking with Nine News.

In an attempt to resolve the problem, the airline advises users to log out of the app and then back in.

It stated that it was "not aware of any customers travelling with incorrect boarding passes" .

Social media is overflowing with posts from those claiming to be impacted as well as critiques of the carrier.
